so, Sn = n/2[ 2a + ( n-1) d], an = a + (n-1) d

put the value of n in their respective places, we get

s29= 29/2 [ 2a + 28d] = 3538 --------- ( I ),

a29 = 2a +28 d = 248 --------------------( ii ),

so, by second equation, we get 28d =248-a -------- ( iii ),

substituting value od 28d In first equation

we get 29/2( 2a-a +248),

by solving this we get, a = -4,

put the value of a in third equation, we get d = 9..
