EXPLANATION.

⇒ (x - 2)/4 = (x + 2)/x,  x ≠ 0.

As we know that,

Cross multiply both the equation, we get.

⇒ x(x - 2) = 4(x + 2).

⇒ x² - 2x = 4x + 8.

⇒ x² - 2x - 4x - 8 = 0.

⇒ x² - 6x - 8 = 0.

This equation is in the form of ax² + bx + c, (a ≠ 0).

It means it is a quadratic equation.

As we know that,

⇒ D = Discriminant Or b² - 4ac.

⇒ D = b² - 4ac.

⇒ D = (-6)² - 4(1)(-8).

⇒ D = 36 + 32.

⇒ D = 68.

⇒ α = - b + √D/2a.

⇒ α = - (-6) + √68/2.

⇒ α = 6 + √68/2.

⇒ α = 6 + 2√17/2.

⇒ α = 2(3 + √17)/2.

⇒ α = 3 + √17.

⇒ β = - b - √D/2a.

⇒ β = - (-6) - √68/2.

⇒ β = 6 - √68/2.

⇒ β = 6 - 2√17/2.

⇒ β = 2(3 - √17)/2.

⇒ β = 3 - √17.

MORE INFORMATION.

Conjugate roots.

(1) = If D < 0.

One roots = α + iβ.

Other roots = α - iβ.

(2) = If D > 0.

One roots = α + √β.

Other roots = α - √β.
