Types of Seismic Waves

1.P- Waves ( Primary Waves)

The shock waves become after the movements of two massive rocks are called P- waves means Primary waves.

2.S- waves ( Secondary waves)

The wave created after the reflection of primary waves called S waves (secondary waves).

The function of the seismic waves is similar to the function of the light and water waves.

3. L- Waves (Surface waves)

When the released energy comes on the surface of the earth, that time generated waves known as L- waves. L- Waves also known as LOVE waves. These are the horizontal and vertical waves on the surface of the earth. These are those waves which damage the most.

4.RAYLEIGH WAVES

The medium of S- waves and Rayleigh waves is almost same.

Speed of Rayleigh waves is less than the speed of surface waves
