Solution:

Potatoes bought by Apala  =  2½  kg  = 5/2  kg

Potatoes Bought by Meenu =  1½   kg = 3/2 kg

Total Potatoes bought by both = Potatoes bought by Apala   + Potatoes Bought by Meenu

=>Total Potatoes bought by both = 5/2  + 3/2

=> Total Potatoes bought by both = (5 + 3/2

=> Total Potatoes bought by both = 8/2

=>  Total Potatoes bought by both =  4 kg

total amount of potatoes purchased by both.​ = 4 kg
