Diffusion is not only about gaseous exchange. It has many more functions or role apart from that.

In an organism, take an example , Plant.

Water and Minerals are transported within the plant, and diffusion plays a very prominent role in this. With the help of diffusion, water and minerals and food is transported within the plant through xylem and phloem tissues.

There is a term Osmosis. It's nothing else than process of diffusion in organism associated with only exchange of water.

Thus, In an organism , it plays an important role in the shrinking and swelling of cells by lossing water and gaining water respectively.

That's all about the other role of diffusion in an organism.
