After the Death of APJ Abdul Kalam on 27th of July, 2015. The previous Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Srimati. Jayalalitha announced that to give honour to him, an award will be given each year on his name i.e APJ Abdul Kalam award of which initial award prize is of 500 Thousand Rupees.
