Solution :

The appendicular skeleton includes the bones of the forelimb and hindlimb. The forelimbs consist of a long bone humerus in the upper arm and two long bones radius and ulna in the lower arm. The wrist has eight bones called carpels Palm has five bones called metacarpals. The hind limb consists of a long bone femur in the thigh, two long bones in the inner fibula and the outer tibia in the shank, Seven tarsal bones in the ankle, five long metatarsal bones in the middle of the foot, and fourteen phalanges in the toes. The hind limbs have an additional bone called the patella, which is joined to the lower end of the femur.

Additional Information:

Total no of bones in appendicular skeleton - 120

30 in each forelimb and hindlimb

Forelimb (Bones in order)

  • Humerus (1)
  • Radius (1)
  • ulna (1)
  • Carpals(8)

Hindlimb (Bones in order)

  • Femur (1)
  • Patella (1)
  • Tibia (1)
  • Fibula(1)
  • Tarsal(7)
  • Metatarsals (5)
