Apples are most widely planted and are commercially the most important fruit crop in Jammu and

Kashmir. The cultivation of apple crop in Jammu and Kashmir shows particular interest for a

number of reasons. In terms of both area and production, apple is very beneficial fruit crop. This

provides a major source of income and employment in Jammu and Kashmir. Rajpal has an apple

orchard of area 10000 m2 where he has 2500 apple trees. He spends Rs 400/- on taking care of

each tree. At the end of the apple season the production was 16 metric tons (1 metric tons

=1000KG). Rajpal has two options of selling his apples he can sell it to the whole seller at the rate

of Rs 120 per kg (who will collect apples from his orchards) or he can take the apples and deliver

it to the fruit market in Delhi at the rate of Rs 250 per kg. Rajpal will have to take his apples in

trucks for delivering. Each truck will cost him Rs 5500 and can take 750 Kg once.

Given:

Area of the orchard = 10000 m^2

Number of apple trees grown in the orchard = 2500

To find:

Percent of total apple orchard covered by each tree.

Solution:

If 2500 apple trees cover 10000 m^2 of orchard.

Then 1 tree would cover 10000/2500 m^2 of orchard which is = 4 m^2

Percentage of total apple orchard covered by each tree = (area of orchard covered by each tree* 100)/ Total area pf apple orchard

(4*100)/ 10000

= 0.04%

Therefore the percentage of the total apple orchard covered by each tree is 0.04%.
