Values:

Cost of each apple = Rs 20

No. of apples bought be Mrs. Cruz = 3 1/2

Amount she gave to the seller = Rs 1000

Solving:

1 dozen = 6 apples

3 1/2 dozens = (6 x 3) + 6/2

= 18 + 3

= 21 apples

Cost of one apple = Rs 20

So, cost of 21 apples = 21 x 20

= Rs 420

Therefore, the cost of the apples bought by Mrs. Cruz is Rs 420.

Amount she gave to the seller = Rs 1000

Amount she will receive as change = Rs 1000 - Rs 420

= Rs 580

Therefore Mrs. Cruz will receive Rs 580 back as change.
