As a film goer I am only able to speculate about the prices being charged. My answer is that cinemas raise prices for the ticket to a punitive level so that you are driven into the arms of their membership schemes. The ordinary ticket is set high to make the benefits of membership more attractive. I am not arguing that you cannot find cheap cinema you can but the films are screened at times so early on week days so as not to be practical.
