FAJAN 'S RULE:-

=> More is the distortion of anion and more will be the covalent character.

APPLICATION:-

1.) Smaller the size of the cation :-

=>Smaller the cation greater is the polarisation and more is the covalent character

LiCL > NaCl > KCl > RbCl >CsCl

2.) Larger size of the anion:-

=>Larger is the anion greater will be Covalent character.

LiI > LiBr >LiBl >LiF

3.) Large charge on the cation or anion :-

=>Larger the charge on the cation or greater will the Covalent character.

Na^+Cl^- < Mg^2+Cl^-2<Al^3+Cl3^-3

4.) Electronic configuration of the cation:-

=> The cations having 18 electron shell has covalent character
CuCl> NaCl

Here is your answer

» For a given cation, covalent character Increases with increase in size of the anion

» For a given anion, covalent character increases with a decrease in the size of the cation

» Covalent character Increseas with increasing charge either on cation or an anion

» Covalent character is higher for compounds with cations with pseudo noble gas electronic configuration
