The concept of square roots and it's application in real life situations were realized first by the Egyptians. The Egyptians wanted square roots to make important dimensional calculations of the pyramids. The square roots were also necessary to calculate time using pendulum clocks. Since, time period of pendulum is given by t = 2(pi)*sqrt(l/g) where sqrt( ) is square root. Square roots are necessary to calculate value of pi in some cases.
