APPLICATIONS OF HEATING EFFECT OF CURRENT !!

1. Heating effect of current is used in electric toaster, electric water hearers, electric iron, room heaters, etc.

The heating element is made up of nichrome, manganin or constantan because of its high resistivity and high melting point.

One more property which makes these alloys useful application is that their resistivity is not much affected by increase in temperature.

2. Electric Fuse :- A Fuse is a safety device for circuit and electrical appliances.

A Fuse wire has low melting point. When High current passes through the fuse wire, it melts the appliance from high current damage. A Fuse is connected in live wire.

3. The heating element of electric current is also used in electric bulbs.

When electric current passes through the tungsten filament, due to heating Effect of current, the element becomes white hot and emits light.

In Other words, Tungsten Filament becomes incandescent. Tungsten is used as it has a high melting points of 3380°C.

The bulb is filled with chemically inert gases like Ne, Ar as tungsten does not react with these gases.
