Knowing about volume and surface area can be very useful in your daily life!
Say, for example, you wanted to know how much a precious mineral was worth. Part of that would require knowing the volume! Or, if you wanted to know how many calories were in a pie, that would also include knowing the volume! Same with surface area! You could use surface area to find out how much cardboard was used to make a box, or how much fabric was used to make a pillow! See, there are many applications of surface area and volume!
And not just in daily life, but in subfields of Science, such as engineering and physics!

Application of Surface Area
- We often use the area of the room's floor to determine the size of the carpet to be bought.
- Covering the floor with tiles or the walls with paint or wallpaper
- While buying a flat, the first question that we ask is what is the area of the flat? Area gives us an idea of how much space is present inside a particular shape.
Application of volume
- Volume gives an idea of the quantity. For example, how much water is present in a bottle, how much gas is required to fill a balloon, or how much petrol a car needs to travel a particular distance.
- Volume has a very important role in cooking. For example, how much milk is required to make a cup of tea, or what amount of oil is required to make a bowl of curry?
