there are two groups of islands on either side of Indian mainland

the Andaman and Nicobar Islands stretched to the south east of the mainland in the bay of Bengal they are of volcanic origin with 7950 km square area

the islands of narkondam barren etc are of volcanic origin

they are rich in forest wealth like evergreen forest

the Lakshadweep islands are of coral region with 32 km square area and 39 Islands

these islands are famous of great variety of flora and fauna particularly corals seaweeds etc

it is very important for us to take suitable measures in protecting these flora and fauna not only in terms of ecology but also in terms of tourism industry
