The pulley by George Herbert is a poem which looks at the undying demands of people and how nothing can ultimately satisfy them. In this poem there are various metaphysical aspects and traits regarding religious perspectives which used to study this nature of man. This poem takes a dive at the approach for discovering "why this happens", "why humans are not satisfied" and what the poet can make out of this behavior.

This poem is based on a connotation, i.e. the pulley. This connotation is used as a metaphor, for an example of the relationship between man and God. In simple words, the author compares the pulley with that of "God-Man relationship".
