Explanation:

The Pilgrim is a poem by an anonymous author. It describes the enormous patience that a pilgrim has to reach his destination. He is ready to endure all hardships and does so cheerfully. He is ready to face any challenge that may come his way and nothing deters him from his aim of reaching his destination. So steadfast is his faith, belief, and trust in God that he can walk day and night fearlessly.

The old pilgrim on his way finds a big chasm on the bridge and sets it right for a young pilgrim who is coming that way. This shows the selfless nature of the pilgrim among other things.

  • The poem is interspersed with a number of figures of speech. The theme revolves around selflessness, faith, endurance, and steadfastness.
  • The rhyming scheme is different for the three stanzas: aabccbb, aabbcc, aabbccdd for the three stanzas respectively.
