The above line is taken from the poem ‘Sower’ written by Victor Hugo

EXPLANATION:

  • The farming and the farmer’s life is the main theme of this poem and the poet explains his feelings for the farmer together with the thorough explanation concerning the nature surrounding the farmer.
  • The poet is sitting relaxingly in a porchway relishing the sunset and reddish sky. Poet defines the twilight sky. ‘The twilight hastens on to rule’ implies that the twilight sky is slowly overpowering the day since it is a time between the daytime and very soon it would become night sky.
  • Moreover, the working hours are over, that is, the time of working in the fields are over and the farmers and other workers cannot be seen anywhere, and very soon it is going to be night and dark all around.
