The poem 'the pulley' is written by george herbert .the rhymes scheme of the poem is ababa. In this poem the poet talks more about relationships that exist between god and man .God sees human as a being that is subject to change and they may go astray and follow the wrong course by loving the nature and his gifts offered by god and not the creator. Restlessness will lead us to god and act as a pulley .

My favorite lines in the poem are 'If goodness lead him not yet weariness may toss him to my breast '.This line tells us that when we are happy we never turned to show gratitude towards him, when we get tired and weary we remember him and our 'weariness' will act as a pulley and lead us to him .

The figures of speech or alliteration, Antithesis , personification ,inversion.

This poem is called as metaphysical the poet compares the relationship between god and man with metaphorical 'pulley' . He successfully hynotises the reader with a feeling that the body is having a dialogue using direct speech .

I like this poem because of the relationship portrayed between god and man the message is simple but effective. The poem brings us down to earth and reminds us that the god is the supreme power and we have to turn to him one day .
