Arabari forest of West Bengal is dominated by Sal trees. This forest range is present in West Midnapore district of West Bengal. Silviculture is done there involving local people which started in 1972 by the efforts of Indian Forest Service officer Shri Ajit Kumar Banerjee. In the consevation scheme, the villagers are actively involved and they derive benefits of employment in silviculture
and harvesting, share 25% of the profits from the forest products and collect firewood and fodder from the forest area on a nominal fee.
This scheme is still going on in Arabari.
