PUNE: Archaeologists from the Deccan College Deemed University in Pune have discovered two skeletons, a young male and a female, buried at the same time in the same grave with the man’s face turned toward the woman.
It is the first anthropologically confirmed joint burial of a couple in a Harappan cemetery. The 'couple's grave' was found in the Harappan settlements excavated at Rakhigarhi in Harayana, some 150km northwest of Delhi.
Archaeologists said evidence points at the couple being buried simultaneously or about the same time. They could not find clear evidence if one was buried after the other.

HYDERABAD: Fossils of dinosaur bone fragments, tortoise and animal footprints from the Jurassic period have been discovered recently at Yamanapalli archaeological site in Mancherial, triggering renewed interest among experts about more such findings. “Over the past two months, I found bone fragment fossils of dinosaurs as well as a fossil that is believed to be a dinosaur egg. Another fossil believed to be that of tortoise was uncovered at Yamanapalli in the reserve forest area of Kotapalli,” history enthusiast Samudrala Sunil told TOI.
The discovery comes in continuation of findings made by scientists at Kataram-Mahadevpur-Yamanapalli site.
“However, tribals in the area are damaging the fossils, believing that they may contain gold. They have to be told about fossil preservation,” said Sunil, adding that he found the fossils in an eight-km radius of Pranhita river, on both Maharashtra and Telangana sides. “I have informed the Geological Survey of India about my latest collection,” he said. The fossils collected shall be examined to come to a conclusion.
