Not all the B-H bonds in boron hydride are equivalent.

  • The dimeric structure of B_2H_6 is as follows-
  • The compound BH_3 unit dimerise to form B_2H_6.
  • In this compound, there are four covalent bonds present between B and H atoms with a bond length of 119pm. Two hydrogen atoms act as a bridge and connect the two B atoms by a 3c-2e bond commonly known as the banana bond and the bond length is 131pm.
