CHAPTER

A
Near the banks of River Reiss, in Switzerland, lived
good man called William Tell. He was a shepherd who
tended his flock with care everyday. He worked hard to
earn his money and spent it with prudent thrift.
S
He was not greedy, but contented with what he had. So
his life was happy and peaceful. The Swiss men were
well-known hunters. Tell too had a special skill in this
field. He never missed an aim.
Tell had a small son, good-looking, sweet-natured and
cheerful.
He was the apple of Tell's eye, the darling of his mother
and the joy of the family. Every sheep of his father was the
boy's friend. He called the lambs by their names. When
they frolicked in the fields, the boy too shared their game.
