a person started from point a and went to point b and again returned to point a
then displacement is 0 but distance is sum of distance from a to b and distance from b to a
so distance and displacement are in general have no equal magbitude

No, because , distance travelled has only magnitude whereas displacement has magnitude as well as direction.
The distance travelled by a moving body cannot be zero but the final displacement of moving body can be zero.
