For 21st century, it depends more on what your goals and ambitions are and where you want to see your work to be. Let's start this way:

Mumbai's dabbawalas have a business with 80 crores turnover a year. Home made food is a domestic chore. Yet these dabbawalas are making crores. A domeatic chore with a great economic value and potential.

In analogous to this, you can also have another domestic chore as an outstanding business. Take tea. Indians have on average 3 cups of tea a day. There are probably lakhs( should be crores) of tea stalls across India.

And you will be amazed by this business:

Typhoo Tea targets Rs. 100 crores turnover in 3–4 years

Now thats where your vision brings you if you have one :)

So I would say domestic chore is neither non-market nor non-economic activity.

What matters is what value you see in domestic chore and where you can make it a business.
