In India , with millions of people surrounded around us. Competition has became a part of our life. A lot many people are racing to achieve the best. Competition is in every field now.
Education is considered as the golden gateway to a secured, safe, and standard life, even parents consider it as the golden gateway to a happy and secured life of their kids.
After the senior secondary school, we have many entrance exams conducted to admit students to different fields. In this mad rush to clear the exams like NEET, JEE, CAT , etc , a question arises ' Are entrance exams really necessary?'
This question has two answers -
• Yeah Entrance exams are necessary and should be taken.
• Nope, They are not necessary and should not be conducted.
Let's discuss first about - Yes! Entrance exams are necessary and should be conducted.
Entrance exams checks the capability of a student, with almost 10000 seats and around 15 lakh students who apply for exam, it's a quite tedious task to decide who to select.
Entrance exams is a helping hand to select the desired number of candidates and the ones who the best and capable!
We have ICSE board, CBSE board, State boards, Many boards exists in the country, each has a different standard and are different from each other. Entrance exams apply same criteria and standard in order to given students a fair opportunity for the selection , for occupying a seat.
Since I was in 4th, I heard that 'Exams aren't just for marks, they are to build your knowledge, calmness, courage'
Entrance exams checks the same, when a child sitting in the exam hall with a high pressure on his/her mind, and each tick - tock of the watch increasing the heartbeat of the student, one has to be calm and work patiently like he was doing initially at the starting of the exam. Entrance exam check the ability of a student to work calmly under pressure and strategizing is also checked , of course.
A student has to work in an organised manner, one has to make a strategy in order to end the exam on time.
Now, let's discuss about why entrance exams should not be conducted -:
These entrance tests don't really check a student's true capability, either a student will pass or fail, it's like if a child cramped the things, just learned and learned and learned, and scored well, that one person is really capable for achieving a seat?
India is still not a country where people go to bed after having a good meal. People still don't have better facilities. There is still a wide gap between poor and rich. The people, the families with better facilities often do qualify these entrance exams.
What about the people who can't pay for applying for the test? What if their kids are capable for clearing the exam but they can't just afford it? Such people often are left behind.
Do you think these test go on so easily? And people are so honest that they won't try to do anything wrong for clearing the tests? Nope nope young ladies and men's, copying and other malpractices takes place. The secrecy and sanctity of these tests are often compromised.
Copying syndicates and impersonators often charge money and sit the examination for other people.
They just bribe the authorities. People at a very good post, a high post often succed to do so.
Sometimes, exam papers leak too and mass copying takes place which defeats the real objective of these examinations.
We do hear such things once in a week atleast - 'A student commited suicide'
A lot many institutions and coaching centres are established around the country, who are to be provided with a very high amount of money for training at their centre. These institutions don't really check the inituitive problem solving skill of the student. In each advertisement of a coaching centre, we just get to see the success stories , about the students who did well, do they ever tell the number of students who failed? The fail number is higher than the pass ones. And many poor people can't afford fees of these institutions, and many students commit suicide thinking that they can't do anything after they failed.
Even parent pressurise children to study and read more and crack the examinations, and when children could not stand up to the parents expectations, they usually scold or feel disappointed instead of consoling their child, we have to console them and some parents become a victim of depression, they never really tell their child to try more harder.
So after this long and long discussion about entrance exams being necessary or not, we reach to a conclusion, that they are really necessary.
That's true that it has many flaws and even in the way they are conducted, but think won't it be unfair if we choose children randomly? It will be, and it will be a tedious job as well...!!!
