Ionic compounds are those that contain positive and negative ions bound together in a crystal lattice , we know that electricity can only be conducted if there is the presence of free charges . so as already menyioned in solid state charges are bounded hence no conduction in solid state , but if present in molten or aqueous form it is a very good conductor of electricity as charges get free when melted or dissolved in water.
