Answer:

smallest number is 40

Step-by-step explanation:

let the ratio be x

first number = 5x

second number = 7x

therefore according to question

5x + 7x = 96

12x = 96

x = 8

putting the value of x in first and second number

we get

5 × 8 = 40

7 × 8 = 56

hence smallest number = 40

Let the two numbers be x and y ,

Now , ATQ

ratio of 3:5

=> x/y = 3/5

=> 5x = 3y (1)

Now, again , ATQ

the sum of the two numbers are 96

=> x + y = 96 (2)

From equation (1) => x = 3y/5

Putting this value of x in equation (2),

=> 3y/5 + y = 96

=> 8y/5 = 96

=> y = 96×5/8

=> y = 60

From (1) or (2), we will get=

x =30
