:) During the year 1990, there was a huge shortfall in overall industrial growth of Maharashtra
as compared to other states in India. After comparing the different sectors, it was found by the
government that the agricultural growth was less as compared to other sectors which was really
pulling down the overall growth.
Thus, government started identifying the problems regarding agricultural sectors. It started
with agricultural survey by interviewing the individual farmers. It was found that agricultural
output has decreased by 40% in last 10 years. Farming was not done to its full capacity and
almost 30% of individual farmers were not doing farming as there was very less profit. They
were not able to meet their family expenses by doing farming. They preferred to some other
work then farming.
This study was taken seriously by government and then it introduced the "Minimum Suppor
Price” that should be given to farmer for their commodities to meet their family expenses as we
they will get some profit in hand.
