area of square  = a²

given diagonal = 3√2

using pythagorean theorem

diagonal² = base² +perpendicular²

in square all sides are equal so base  = perpendicular

let the sides be a

so,

(3√2)² = 2(a)²

18 = 2(a)²

9 = a²

√9 = a

3 = a

so area of square is 3×3 = 9 unit ²
