In the early humans, the wisdom teeth were the third sets of molars which were used to chew the food when the set of teeth undergoes wear and tear.

At that period of time, their basic food was roots, leaves, raw flesh and so on and wisdom teeth helped them to chew food easily.

The wisdom teeth of humans are considered as a vestigial anatomic structure. The vestigial anatomic structure is an anatomical feature that has no purpose of having it in an organism.
