Wisdom tooth is called as a vestigial organ. This means that it was an organ that was used by our ancestors for some other purpose.

Usage :-

Wisdom tooth was used by our ancestors for a great purpose. During those days there were only hard shelled nuts to eat. To provide a base for strong teeth and extra chewing purpose wisdom tooth was present in our ancestors.


Nowadays, wisdom tooth is not necessary for us as we cook food and eat. Hence wisdom tooth is not used for chewing food nowadays. But it was used for chewing food in our ancestors.
