some planets are rigid while others may be loose rock, ice, gas, or all three held loosely together by an atmosphere. Earth is rigid because it is solid rock, although it is almost hollow, it is still a rigid planet

rubyvinod2002: On what basis u could say that earth is rigid?
xjhaymor: like a comparison?
rubyvinod2002: Yes
xjhaymor: well, the earths crust is made of metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous rocks, all of which are very rigid, then the mantle is made of the same three rocks, just very compressed due to the weight of the crust and everything on it, making it very sturdy and solid
rubyvinod2002: Then what do u say abt comets?
rubyvinod2002: How can they enter earth's surface?
xjhaymor: comets are giant balls of ice that release gas and dust, making them not sturdy in comparison to anything, if they were to enter our atmosphere they would burn up before they got to the surface
rubyvinod2002: Thanks buddy
xjhaymor: no problem at all
