Answer: Ancient Maps had no lines of longitude (no accurate clocks to measure it with). ... Modern maps only have a simple pointer to north (sometimes not even that). Ancient maps likely used hand made paper and inks.

No there are no much similarities between ancient & modern map

Explanation:

  • Today, maps are, to a large degree, purely representative: they depict the world as geopolitically accurate. However a few hundred years ago, though, mostly maps were more loosely descriptive, they were more informed by art & spirituality than by science.
  • There were no longitude lines in ancient maps (no precise measurement clocks). Many ancient maps had in one corner a complex compass rose. Modern maps have a single north pointer only (not even that sometimes). Old maps probably used paper and inks made by hand.⠀ Modern maps are produced in high quality special paper
  • The latest modern maps can be viewed on physical platforms such as CDs or the Internet. Ancient maps contain limited space and information that could be used from their time
  • Ancient maps were often considered as classified documents . Many colonial empires  (English, Spanish, Portuguese, and so on.) would not want to get them in the wrong hands, because they could be looted or declared their own by competitor nations. For this cause, some maps were intentionally made with mistakes.
