Are there caves in deserts? If so, what kinds? How are they formed?
The fact that an area is a desert changes over time. So actually the caves in arid areas are generally the same as in non arid areas. Caves depending on water, eg karst caves are common in deserts, but they are fossil, which means they were formed while there was still sufficient water. As we are in an ice age, this was probably only 10.000 years ago. There is for example the famous Cave of Swimmerswhich shows that there was water in the Sahara not that long ago.
On the other hand there are caves in deserts which do not exist in other climates. Salt is normally washed away by rain quite easily. But in deserts it is not washed away. But the rare rains can form caves inside the salt. The most famous salt cave is located on Qeshm Island which belongs to Iran:
