There are two types of forces that are acting on the paperclips hanging on the wall. They are: -

  1. Gravitational Force -
    → This is the force acting in the downward direction.
    → The force with which the earth pulls any object towards itself is called the gravitational force.
    → A force acting on the mass of two objects.
    → Earth always tries to pull objects towards itself and never pushes them. The force that earth applies on the object is called Gravitational force.
    → The gravitation force was first discovered by Newton.
  2. Tension -
    → Also commonly called as the tension of the string.
    → This force acts in the upward direction.
    → The force applied by the string to hold the given object is called tension.
    → A pulling force that acts in the opposite direction to that of the gravitational force.
    → It is vector quantity as it has a magnitude as well as a direction.
