Spaces between the cells is called as extracellular spaces which is filled with extracellular matrix or ECM secreted by cells through exocytosis and that is why each tissue has their own ECM . This matrix is composed of materials like pectin, fibrous proteins, glycosaaminoglycans etc. that keeps cells together.
