yes...in someways it can be said that the trees are cut for progress.People cut trees and on that land they built factories ,institution etc..which are some of the progress in development of india.
i think, we can make significant progress without cutting trees.like see...paper that are often made by cutting several trees,can be made by wool or someother material so that there are less paper industries plus less pollution.
the important thing is survival on earth and for that u need to be alive,oxygen is required and it is acquired from trees...
