Are trees being cut down in the name of progress . can we make significiant progress without cutting down trees

if trees being cut down in the name of progress then we can never make progress .without cutting down tress we can make significant progress.if tress are started to cutting then amount of pollution increased .and carbon dioxide will be increased. and in result we are going to suffer from many diseases.people are cutting trees in the name of making paper,branch,paper,etc.
I am child so I don't know how to stop elder people. if I told about the benefit of the tree to such a people who cut tree then they surely slapped me or ignored me so we can stop this by not taking and throwing pages from the book or notebook.according to survay in newyourk about 5 to 6 million people read the newspaper daily.so for printing this paper how many trees are cutting.if newspaper started to printing with such instruments which can easily erase then thousands of thousand trees are saved and from that tree we can get a number of fruits,medicine etc
