The thrust for a global identity for India encouraged rapid globalization.However it is threatening local identity

1)Westernization of culture- celebrating Christian new year but declining charm of traditional Indian new year(around April)

2)Local artifacts and art traditions are losing market due to competition from cheap western made good..

3)Rising individualism and declining collectivism(which is an integral part of identity of Indian family family..

4)Indian cuisines – mcdonaldization of Indian cuisine has led to identity crisis for traditional Indian food

5)Clothing- Dhoti ,kurta, saree were traditional identity which are facing challenge from western concept of Jeans,t shirt, miniskirt

6)consumerism and materialism increased due to westernization.while Indian local identity has always been on the concept of- be happy in what you have..

Nevertheless..

Despite the onslaught of global culture, local culture has been able to maintain its identity to a significant extent..

1)McDonald adapted to Indian style by including vegetarian menu..

2)Fusion of indo western music is a good amalgamation of Indian as well as western identity..

3)joint family cycle reverting back to joint family,

4)yoga- the promotion of yoga showcase the two way impact of globalization ,where a local identity(yoga) has been recognized and adapted by almost every part of world..

Hence Indian identity has been transformed and fused peripherally..but core identity has survived, if not thrived.
