# What do you mean by global warming?

★ Global warming is the phenomena in which there is gradual increase in the temperature of the earth's atmosphere. It ruins the natural Environment and it's not less than a man made disaster!

Let's talk about some of the facts in relation to global warming!

→ Today the condition of global warming occurred because of the increase in the average temperature of the earth caused due to green house gases like carbon dioxide and methane.

→ Melting of glaciers will result in the raise of sea level and causing issues like water shortage in the areas that depends on natural sources of water.

→ The period from 2000-2009 was noted as the hottest decades on the earth.

→ Global warming can even lead to the shortage of food and water on the earth.

→ A failure in preventing global warming can cause a major economic collapse.

→ Human activities release around 37 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Let's talk about why does global warming occurred?

→ The condition of global warming occurred because some of the green house gases like carbon dioxide and other air pollutants collects in the atmosphere and traps and absorbs the sunlight and it's solar radiations that could have been bounced back to the earth's surface. If these interruption were not there then it could have escaped the space.But as if those green house gases were trapped led to the planet to get hotter even more.This is known as green house effect.

Now, it's the time to talk about its merits :.

★ There will be fewer number of deaths and injuries because of the cold environment.

★ There can be increased agricultural production in some of the local areas because of the longer seasons.

★ There will be less energy consumption for warming cold places.

Now, about its disadvantages :

★ Due to change in the climatic conditions agricultural production becomes less and leads to the shortage of food.

★ Water shortage on those places where water is already less available.

★ Humans and animals will be more prone to diseases.

★ Heat waves will lead to deaths.

★ Possibility that there can be extinction of some of the species of plants and animals.

★ Air Pollution will be increased.

★ Conditions like starvation,malnutrition may even occur.

★ There are chances of desertification.

# What are the measures taken by the government to reduce global warming?

★ Government has introduced and encouraged the use of CNG and LPG gases in vehicles instead of other polluting gases like petrol and diesel.
→ This reduces the harmful gases without being released into the air.

★ Government often takes initiative in organising campaigns to make people aware of the disadvantages of global warming.

★ Indian government have implemented chimneys in factories to reduce global warming.

★ Organisation of Vanmahotsav that means More afforestation and less deforestation.

★ They have replaced plastic bags with jute bags.

★ Government also appoints some leaders to organise awareness among people.

★ Swachh Bharat is a successful mission taken up by narendra modi , our prime minister. Similarly many other missions can be taken up against it.

Before going to say about Global warming, I would like to give introduction about Greenhouse effect.

THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT:-

A Greenhouse is a small house made of glass that is used to grow plants. It traps the Sun's rays and keeps the heat from escaping. It is warm inside. In the same way that the glass traps the heat in a greenhouse, some gases present in the atmosphere such as Carbon dioxide (CO2),Carbon monoxide (CO),Methane and water vapour trap heat from radiating back to the space. The natural greenhouse gases act like a big blanket around the earth,keeping it warm and making life possible without which temperatures would have fallen to sub zero values. This phenomenon of naturally warming up is called “Greenhouse effect”.

But the extent of this natural warming up process have been grossly affected now. Due to various human activities such as burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and industrialization, an excessive amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases has been emitted to the environment. As a result more heat gets trapped. This causes the temperature of the earth to rise,which results in “GLOBAL WARMING”.

Global warming is the recorded increase in the average temperatures of the earth's atmosphere and oceans. Global warming affects the weather patterns on Earth and causes Climatic Change. Climatic Change results in higher sea levels,more rainfall and severe drought and floods.
