Step-by-step explanation:

Let, the one parallel side=x cm and

Another is=3x cm

Distance between the parallel sides=22cm

According to the question,

Area of a trapezium=440sq cm

=>1/2×(sum of parallel sides) ×distance between them=440

=>1/2×(x+3x)×22=440

=>1/2×(4x)×22=440

=>44x=440

=>x=440/44=10cm

And 3x=3×10=30cm

Hence,the length of two parallel sides are 10cm and 30cm

Given:

✰ Area of a trapezium = 440 cm²

✰ The distance between the parallel sides = 22 cm

✰ The length of one parallel side is 3 times the length of other parallel side.

To find:

✠ The length of the two parallel sides.

Solution:

Let's understand the concept first!

  • First we will assume the length of other parallel side as x and we know that the length of one parallel side is 3 times the length of other parallel side, so the length of one parallel side would be 3 multiplied by x i.e, 3 × x = 3x.
  • We are provided with the area of a trapezium and the distance between the parallel sides. Thus, by using formula of area of trapezium. Putting the values in the formula and after doing the required calculations, we will find out the length of the two parallel sides.

Let's find out...✧

Let the length of other parallel side be x,

Let the length of other parallel side be x,then the length of one parallel side = 3x

Area of a trapezium = 1/2 × (sum of parallel sides) × height

  • Sum of parallel sides means we will add the length of both the parallel sides.
  • Height is the distance between the parallel sides.

Putting the values in the formula, we have:

➤ 440 = 1/2 × ( x + 3x ) × 22

➤ 440 = ( x + 3x ) × 11

➤ 440 = 4x × 11

➤ 4x = 440/11

➤ 4x = 40

➤ x = 40/4

➤ x = 10

∴ The length of other parallel side = 10 cm

Now,

➛ The length of one parallel side = 3x

➛ The length of one parallel side = 3 × 10

➛ The length of one parallel side = 30 cm

The lengths of the two parallel sides are 10 cm and 30 cm respectively.
