In an isosceles right angle triangle,

let the perpendicular and base(which are equal) be 'a'

=>1/2×base×height=area

=>1/2×a×a=8 cm^2

=>a×a=16

=>a=√16

therefore,a=4 cm

and 2a^2 =hypotenuse^2

=> 2×16=h^2

=> 32=h^2

=> 4√2 cm=h

Hope you understood.
