Answer:

18 cm²

Step-by-step explanation:

( Refer to attachment for figure)

Construction : Draw a perpendicular line to AB from P and name that as Q

a) Area of the rectangle ABCD = Length × Breadth = AB × CB = 36 cm²

AB × CB = 36 cm² ------ ( 1 )

Area of the ∆ABP = 1/2 × Base × Height

= 1/2 × AB × PQ

Since height of the triangle = Breadth of the rectangle, PQ = CB

= 1/2 × AB × CB

From eq( 1 )

= 36/2

= 18 cm²

Therefore the area of the ∆ ABP is 18 cm².

Given:

Area of Reactangle ABCD = 36 cm².

To find:

Area of ∆ABP?

Calculation:

Area of Rectangle = 36 cm²

=> Length × Breadth = 36

=> AB × BC = 36 . . . . . (1)

We know that area of a ∆ is given as :

\boxed{\sf Area  \: of \: \Delta =  \dfrac{1}{2}  \times base \times height}

From the figure, we can see that base is AB and height is equal and parallel to BC.

 \sf Area  \: of \: \Delta =  \dfrac{1}{2}  \times AB \times BC

 \sf Area  \: of \: \Delta =  \dfrac{1}{2}  \times  36

 \sf Area  \: of \: \Delta =  18 \:  {cm}^{2}

So, area of ∆ = 18 cm².
