Now, according to the question

(40 + 2x)² - 40² = 425

40² + 160x + 4x² - 40² = 425

4x² + 160x - 425 = 0

(2x)² + 2(2x)(40) +1600 - 2025 = 0

(2x + 40)² = 2025

2x + 40 = +- 45

x = 5/2, -85/2

Since it can't be negative

So, the required width of the path is 5/2 m or 2.5 m
