Let the length of the unknown side be y , then we have
480 = 1/2 x 8 x ( 24 + y )
480 = 4 x ( 24 + y )
480/4 = 24 + y
120 = 24 + y
120 - 24 = y
96 = y
Thus the length of the unknown parallel side is 96 cm.
