Yes, the above is correct but with some limitations, as mentioned in the formula if it is an r^2 then it is only possible if the two sides adjoining the theta angle is equal which is possible in two cases if the triangle is isosceles or equilateral.

We can improve this formula, let us say that there is a triangle ABC with sides a,b,c and angles A, B, C respectively now we can find the area of this triangle with either of the three formulas,

  • A=\frac{1}{2}absinC
  • A=\frac{1}{2}bcsinA
  • A=\frac{1}{2}acsinB

these formulas can be used in any of the triangles in which two sides and the angle between them are known to us.
