The area of parallelogram is equal to the product of its base and altitude.
Altitude is the height. Or we can say that it is the distance between the opposite sides of the parallelogram.
area = base \times height(altitude) \\ base \:  =  \frac{area}{altitude}
Now,
Area of parallelogram =648 cm²

Altitude =12 cm

So,
Base = area/altitude
Base = 648/12 = 54 cm
