PROCEDURE:-

  • Take a ruled(lined) paper.
  • Draw a triangle ABC between any two parallel lines
  • Now draw one more parallel line(PQ) intersecting other two sides at 'P' and 'Q'
  • Now measure 'AP' and 'PB'.
  • Similarly measure 'AD' and 'QC'.
  • Now,take the ratio of 'AP' & 'BP'.
  • Similarly,take ratio of 'AQ' & 'QC'

OBSERVATION:-

We will observe that this two ratios are equal.

\color{orange}{\boxed{\frac{AP}{PB}=\frac{AD}{QC}}}

This is know as "BASIC PROPORTIONALITY THEOREM"(B.P.T. Theorem).

It states that when a line is parallel to one of the side of a triangle,then the line intersects(divides) the other two sides in the same proportion.

HOPE THAT HELPS!!!
