Answer:

Let no of girls is 5, so 1/5 of 5= 1, and no of boys is 8, so 1/8 of 8=1.

Total students=8+5=13.

Answer:

 \frac {8x + 5y}{40(x+y)}

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total number of girls be x. and the total number of boys be y.

Students taking part in the fete,

=> x/5 + y/8

=>  \frac {8x + 5y}{40}

Total students = x + y.

=> Fraction of the total number of students taking part in the fete =

 \frac {8x + 5y}{40} *  \frac {1}{x+y}

=> Fraction of the total number of students taking part in the fete =  \frac {8x + 5y}{40(x+y)}

HOPE IT HELPS!!!
